Jamtara Scam is in eCom Industry now! Be Aware.
You must have seen Jamtara on Netflix if not then do watch it’s a really good web series. But this post is not about promoting Jamtara, it’s about a similar scam going on these days in Indian eCom Industry!
Some guys most probably from West Bengal and nearby states are scamming with customers on the name of our stores (yours and mine).
Here’s how Jamtara Scam works
1. Customer wants to talk to you for something
2. He searches for your store on Google or Facebook
3. Somehow Customer land to scammers page of site
4. Customer call on given no. thinking it’s the store from where he has made his purchase and gets caught by scammers!
They’re sending a link to the customer for any kind of thing customers want to know or talk about (only for verification) and customers unknowingly clicking on the link and confirming payments! And this way scammers are taking payments in their gateways or accounts through direct links.
Earlier this was a rare thing but now they are in full swing, just last week a friend told about this happened with his multiple customers and now we’ve got 3 complaints about the same within this week!
This is going to be seriously hazardous for small ecom stores and entrepreneurs as customers won’t understand what is going on and they will demand for refund from us.
A customer filed a legal case against us for the very same reason, as we refused to give them a refund for the payment customer made to those scammers!
How to Prevent
So be aware guys, keep your customers updated with your proper contact details so that they don’t fall in any similar scam.
Don’t forget to mention and clarify this to your customer that for any concern contact on your given no. only, you won’t be responsible for anything done from any other no. or entity.
