This is the time of technology and so all businesses and individuals are gradually shifting towards the online business directly or indirectly. why? because with every new technology coming, the offline businesses are going down and down AND down!
Reason? ease and comfort for both consumer and Business.
Literally, and I mean it, there was no better time to go and take your business online!
If you’re not operating online already then there is a special message for you from none other than The Bill Gates.
Mr. Gates says…
“If your business is not on the Internet then your business will be out of business.”
And I’m sure you must have been seeing this happening around you lately. So it is well advised to pull your business online and start as soon as possible.
Here is the list of requirements you need to meet in order to start Online Selling Business in India.
Requirements for Indian eCom Business
See, there are many requirements a fully functional eCommerce Business needs to have in order to operate at the big level but here I’m gonna tell you the minimum and most essential requirements you must have if you want to jump in the Game of Selling.
- A Computer & Fast Internet Connection
Of course, a computer or Laptop is the first thing you will need on your journey of the eCom business.
People may tell you that you can make and run your business from your smartphone as well which is not 100% wrong but not wise at all, as it will take an unnecessarily long time to do even a small task.
Sure, you can use your phone to check stats and make little tweaks but doing everything from a phone is a BIG No!
Along with that, You must have a fast Internet connection which is very essential to do the work smoothly. I’ve seen some people working with a slow Internet connection and even 5 images take several minutes to upload which kills the motivation.
2-4 Hours Time Daily
Everything takes time and so will the online selling business. You will have to devote 2-4 hours at the minimum.
This time you’ll have to do a lot of work for your online eCommerce website like…
- Creating the store: Theme, setting, banners
- Researching for your next winner product
- Optimized enlisting of the products
- Testing all Ads Types: Image, Carousel, Video
- Learning about numerous scaling methods
So make sure you can spare at least this much time out of your schedule every day. Otherwise, it won’t be possible to make anything out of it. Okay, maybe it’s not impossible but not easy for sure.
Minimum 1 Lac Budget for Indian eCom Biz
This is seriously the toughest part for me to come up with!
We’re running a multi-million Dollar eCommerce Business and we spend in crores every month in marketing, logistics, procurements, salaries and much other stuff. And thinking about the minimum amount required to start an eCommerce Business in India was really tough.
After brainstorming for a few hours and talking with many fellow eCom Entrepreneurs I came up with this.
The minimum cash you need ready in your hand is 100K i.e. 1 Lakh rupee. This is literally the bare minimum for anyone to start with.
You’ll be spending this money mainly on…
- Testing Stock
- Fb Ads
- Packaging material
- Courier Charges
Check: Ignore these VITAL eCom Biz Facts and be ready to FAIL 101%
Apart from the bare minimum amount, I’ll strongly recommend you having somewhere around 2-5 Lac in order to move with the pace. With this amount, you’ll be able to scale your business to the next level in order to see some significant profit sooner.
Legal Documents (at least PAN Card)
Again, a properly running business needs to have a lot of legal docs and stuff. But being a complete beginner you can start with your PAN card. You need to enter this information on your store, Facebook as well and you will need to give this information while tieing up with the logistics company which you’ll need to ship your orders.
You’ll need to put in Tax information at every level and so I’ll strongly recommend having at least a GST number for your business.
Once you start getting sales on a regular basis and your circle starts moving forward gently you should have a company or firm registered, Get a company PAN, GST, Current Bank Account asap.
Tip of the day: Never operate a business through your personal Bank account.
An area of 100 Sq Feet
In starting, you should have a free Space of minimum 100-200 square feet to keep your goods (products) in good condition and pack those for shipping.
If you have a vacant room in your house then you can start from your home as well, that’s not a problem. Once your business picks up the speed you can take a big place on rent where you’ll store your inventory, manage your team and other required operations.
Staff?
As you’re just starting out you don’t need to hire anyone until you constantly receive minimum 50 orders a day, until this level you can manage packaging and shipping by yourself or you can ask for a helping hand from your friends or family.
Again I’m saying, these all requirements are the bare minimum to start Online Selling eCommerce Business in India. If someone is operating at a bigger level then sure he will be needing much more staff for different roles and responsibilities. Like we’re having 65+ inhouse people to manage our eCom biz.
Hope this information has helped you to start your eCom business. If you’re stuck in your business at any point feel free to ask for help! Just in case you want, you can know more About Me.

Can u please explain what happened in 2016 with google AdSense. Also your e-commerce app or website name or you r selling on Amazon Flipkart etc?
That’s a long story but if I tell you in short… We used to use a trick to make $10 at the place of $1 and it was working really great for us but all of the sudden one Google core update came and that tricked Stopped working and at the place of $6-10K we’re making from Google Adsense it became tough for us to make even $1K and even after several tries it never worked again and the Empire collapsed!
